How We Help
Edgar County Humane Association is not a part of the city, county, state, or federal government and does not receive any tax dollars or funding from them. We are a 501c3 charity which relies on individual donations for our funding and volunteers to do our work. All of our animals are vet checked before being adopted and we pay for any needed medical care. State law says animals available for adoption must be neutered or spayed, microchipped and given a rabies shot. Ours have also been tested for felV/FIV, given Revolution to rid them of fleas, ticks, and ear mites, wormed, and their nails clipped, plus all beginning shots. We usually spay at four months {4 pounds} or neuter at three months {3 pounds}. If you adopt a kitten prior to being spayed/neutered, we ask that you bring them back at four months so this can be done for no additional charge. Our adoption fee is currently $85.00. If you receive a free kitten and provide this level of care on your own, it can cost you well over $200.00. Our organization also helps with vet bills when we are able and provides pet food for emergencies. We also have a low cost Spay/ Neuter program for cats and small dogs. We hope this information is helpful. We greatly appreciate our donors and volunteer's hard work and commitment. We could not save the number of cats we do with out them.
